One of our beloved china painters, Norma Smith has passed away.


Norma Smith was a Member of Redbud China Painters, Oklahoma World Organization of China Painters Inc.

 






August 24, 1930 - June 23, 2021

 

Norma Smith, age 90 of Wayne, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the Integris Hospice House in Okla. City.  Norma Ruth Leveridge was born August 24, 1930 in Wayne, the 2 of 4 children and only daughter born to Ruel Walton Leveridge and Gladys Marian (Grimes) Leveridge.  She was raised in Wayne and attended school there, graduating with the Bulldog Class of 1948.  Norma then started college, and the very next year, was married to O.C. Minyen.  They lived in the Ski Island area in Okla. City, where together they raised 3 children, son Michael and daughters, Nancy and Nickie.  Norma started working for Southwestern Bell in 1952, and retired as an Engineering Specialist in 1985.  Norma later married Don Smith of Arkansas, and they settled on the family farm near Wayne.  In retirement, Norma stayed busy traveling, and was very active in her church, the Wayne United Methodist Church.  She volunteered at the Purcell Municipal Hospital and taught painting classes, both oil painting and china painting.   She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and a true friend.  She will be dearly missed!

 

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Don Smith; parents, Ruel and Gladys Leveridge; daughter, Nickie Rhodes; 3 brothers, Floyd, Ruel Wayne and Bob and son-in-law, Danny Holder. 

 

Norma is survived by: her son, Michael Minyen of Moore; daughter, Nancy Holder of Broken Arrow; Step children, Kitty Broussard of Midwest City and Kerry Smith of New Mexico; 6 grandchildren, Laramy, Neely, Andrew, Angela, Wesley and Kimber; 11 great grandchildren, Cole, McKaylan, Madison, Kenzee, Wyatt, Wesley, Kelle, Khloe, Lucas, Sylvia, Oakley and Braiden; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. 

 


A Celebration of Life Memorial is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Little’s Chapel, Wilson-Little.  Send online condolences @ www.wilsonlittle.com.

UPDATED INFORMATION ON 2022 SUMMER SEMINAR:


Below the names for the names for the OKWOCPINC SEMINAR IS UPDATED.

At our April 10, 2021 meeting 10 names were drawn for the first of the three annual seminars for OKWOCP INC members.  Also drawn were five alternates.  Several of the ladies declined due to health reasons.


The winners who accepted the invitation are:

5.  Ann Truscott

6.  Inez Herman

7.  Emma Lou Lightfoot

 ALTERNATE:    Another name will be drawn at September 18, 2021 board meeting.  We will also drawn 5 more alternates in case someone has to drop out.


THE LADIES WILL  ATTEND THE SEMINAR FREE OF CHARGE FOR THE ARTIST'S COST.  EACH LADY WILL PROVIDE HER TRAVEL, MEALS, LODGING AND SUPPLIES.   THE SEMINAR WILL BE HELD AT THE WOCP MUSEUM IN OKC.  Kathy Lewis will be the artist and the class will be at the WOCP Museum June 14-16, 2022.

The following motion was made at our annual meeting on April 10th.

The first ten names will be offered a free seminar for the year 2022 sometime between May and September.  Details will be furnished as soon as arrangements are made.   Students will pay for their supplies, food, travel and lodging.   The cost of the artist will be paid from the Educational Fun.


When each person receives the information please read thoroughly and respond quickly.


 A motion was made by Sharan Amend to use Educational Funds to pay for an Annual Painting

Seminar for members with a minimum of 3 years membership with an artist that is not usually     available to Oklahoma members.  This is for an annual seminar for the years of 2022, 2023 and  2024. Ten members will be drawn as winners and five additional members will be drawn as alternates.  The guidelines are attached to this document.  The motion was seconded by Adrienne Mauch and the motion was passed.  Ten members and five alternates were then drawn.
